Registration for 2009/2010 season will commence late September. Please check back. Registration details will be posted as soon as they are available.
The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) clinics were developed by Hockey Canada and are used in the hockey associations all across Canada. Calgary Hockey Development (CHD) administers these clinics in Calgary, on behalf of Hockey Calgary (HC).
In Calgary, NCCP training is a mandatory requirement for coaches of teams registered and playing within Hockey Calgary. Official HC rules and regulations state each team is required to have at least one certified coach on the bench at every league, exhibition and HC sanctioned tournament game and every team practice. It is highly recommended at least one alternate coach on each team is NCCP certified as during the hockey season, the designated NCCP coach may not be able to perform his duties due to illness, suspension or other personal reasons.
According to the rules and regulations set out by HC:
"At registration, Community Associations and AA Quadrants must provide a list containing each team to be registered and the coach that has their Coach Level or higher by December 31st of the current year. The appropriate authority from the Community Association or AA Quadrant must sign the list. TEAMS WILL NOT BE REGISTERED UNLESS A COACH ASSIGNED TO THE TEAM HAS THEIR COACH LEVEL OR HIGHER, OR IS REGISTERED IN A CREDITED PROGRAM TO RECEIVE THEIR COACH LEVEL OR HIGHER PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31ST."

How a player gets their first taste of hockey is crucial. If a beginner has fun, develops some basic skills, and builds confidence, there is a good chance the player will go on to enjoy hockey for many years. Hockey Canada developed the Intro to Hockey Program to specifically address the challenges of coaching this young age group. Course content includes: leadership, communication, teaching skills, skill analysis, lesson organization and principles of safety. The Intro to Hockey Program is mandatory for all coaches at the Initiation level, regardless of what other levels of certification a coach may have. It is a half day clinic held in Calgary in the fall.
Registration Will Commence in the Fall.
The Coach Level clinic addresses many of the complex components of coaching such as communication, organization and effective teaching of skills. It provides the first time coach, or the experienced coach, with practical techniques to effectively manage the coaching environment. The Coach Level clinic is mandatory for coaches at the Novice level and above, regardless of what other levels of certification a coach may have. It is a one day clinic held in Calgary in the fall.
